Businessman Patrick Powell is now a very thankful man after being freed of murder earlier today.
“I feel good. God is with me,” Powell said while leaving the court in a BMW X5.
The charges against Powell were dismissed after the prosecution this morning told the court that it would offer no evidence. Powell had been in court to answer to the murder of 17-year-old Kingston College student Khajeel Mais.
Justice Lloyd Hibbert then directed the juror to return a formal verdict of not guilty.
Powell was charged with murder and shooting with intent.
That development came after the prosecution’s star witness Wayne Wright on Friday recanted his witness statements to the police in 2011.
