A 58-year-old vendor is now in the custody of the Ocho Rios police after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend to death at her workplace on Tuesday morning, June 29.
Police officers on the scene confirmed that the woman is a 22-year-old employee of Torpedo Loan financing company on Brown’s Plaza in the heart of Ocho Rios.
It is alleged that the vendor had been seen sharpening his knife from yesterday.
At sometime after 8 this morning, he awaited the young woman as she entered the loan company to carry out his plan.
The man then proceeded to slash her throat and he stabbed her several times.
When he completed his act, he left her in the building and proceeded to escape where he was apprehended by the Ocho Rios police some distance away from the plaza.
Head of the St Ann police, SSP Wayne Cameron explained that the woman was alive, when she was rushed to the hospital.
However, she later died.
SSP Cameron further explained that the woman’s identity is being withheld as her family has not been notified.
In the meantime, scores of passers-by have gathered in Ocho Rios town centre.
Business has been halted at the Brown’s Plaza as stores remain closed. The police are currently processing the scene.
Tributes are flowing for an Ocho Rios woman who was allegedly killed by an ex-boyfriend on Tuesday morning.
Kyria Nelson is being remembered as a “phenomenal woman” with a “noble character”. Nelson, a 22-year-old employee of Torpedo Loan financing company on Brown’s Plaza in the heart of Ocho Rios, was stabbed to death at her workplace at some time after 8am.
Nelson’s cousin, Anna Phillips, posted on Facebook that it was “every family worse nightmare.”
“My cousin I can not yet believe that today is real its a day filled with shock, pain and a terrifying news . I cry for you and also for the rest of the family it is truly a dark day on all of us,” added a clearly distressed Phillips.
Others flocked to Nelson’s Facebook page to share their shock and grief.
“A must joke this to …can’t come to terms with the idea of you being gone in such a cruel act,” said one woman on Facebook.
“Just tell me a lieee them tell coussss just tell me a lieeee… Omggg me can’t accept this no time… I cant,” added another.
According to the Ocho Rios police, Nelson was followed into the building and stabbed multiple times by a man that she had previously been in a relationship with.
The man, a 58-year-old vendor, is now in police custody.
